Homemade Cat Treat Recipes

Before you start, keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • Each recipe makes approximately 24 cat treats
  • When using the recipe for cat treats from canned food, make sure to use the minced or loaf forms
  • All homemade cat treats should be stored in the refrigerator no longer than 5-7 days to maintain their freshness and prevent spoilage
  • Remember not to freeze homemade cat treats

Cat Treats from Canned Cat Food:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
  2. Open the can and shake the loaf of cat food out of the can.
  3. Cut the loaf into 1/4" thick slices, and then cut the slices into bite-sized pieces.
  4. Bake the cat treats in the microwave on high for approximately 2.5-3 minutes.
  5. Place the treats on an ungreased baking tray and bake in the oven for approximately 30 minutes or until crispy.
  6. Let the treats cool completely before storing or feeding them to your cat.

Snack “Triangles” from Canned Cat Food:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
  2. Spread half of the small can of cat food onto a sheet of waxed paper.
  3. Cut the flattened cat food into triangles, each 1/2" thick.
  4. Place the triangles on an ungreased baking tray and bake in the oven for 15 minutes.
  5. Flip the triangles and bake for another 15 minutes.
  6. Let the treats cool completely before storing or feeding them to your cat.

Gravy from Canned Cat Food:

  1. Add 80ml water to a measuring jug.
  2. Crumble half of a small can of cat food into the jug.
  3. Stir the ingredients until the mixture is the consistency of gravy.

Cat Treats from Dry Cat Food:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
  2. In a blender, add 400g of dry cat food and grind into a powder.
  3. Pour the powder into a mixing bowl and gradually add about 230-300ml of water, stirring until it forms a dough consistency.
  4. Shape into individual treats or biscuits and flatten the dough using the back of a spoon (the biscuits will not flatten like standard "people biscuits" do.)
  5. Place the treats on an ungreased baking tray and bake in the oven for approximately 30 minutes or until crispy.
  6. Let the treats cool completely before storing or feeding them to your cat.

Cookie cutters in fun shapes make cat treats fun to make and serve, especially around Christmas!

Just like any other cat treat, homemade cat treats should not exceed 10% of your cat’s total daily intake.
